Abstract: The aim of the paper was to discuss selected problems of Polish rural areas and agriculture. The main factors slowing down the development of rural areas and agriculture in Poland are unfavourable income situation by comparison to other economy branches, small size of farms (fragmented agrarian structure) and workforce surplus, low educational level, as well as infrastructural barriers. / Synopsis. Celem artykułu było omówienie wybranych problemów występujących na obszarach wiejskich w Polsce, w głównej mierze dotyczących rolnictwa. Do najważniejszych czynników hamujących rozwój obszarów wiejskich oraz rolnictwa należy zaliczyć przede wszystkim niekorzystną sytuację dochodową w porównaniu z innymi działami gospodarki, rozdrobnienie agrarne, nadmiar siły roboczej, niski poziom wykształcenia na wsi oraz bariery infrastrukturalne.
