Abstract: The paper positions Polish agriculture on the background of agriculture in the EU(25) member states in years 2004-2005. The analysis has the aim of selecting its strengths and weaknesses and form a basis for constructing the strategy of its development in the integrating Union. The geographical location of member states forms different climatic and soil conditions for development of agricultural production. In the majority of cases the EU member states are complementary to each other. These characteristics are supplementary to a differentiation in the levels of economic development and in the stage of progress of structural changes in agriculture. Polish agriculture as an important part of agriculture in the EU may play a significant role in development of its food security and food self-supply. / Synopsis. W opracowaniu umiejscowiono rolnictwo polskie na tle rolnictwa krajów Unii (25) w latach 2004-2005. Analiza ma na celu wychwycenie mocnych i słabych stron polskiego rolnictwa i stanowić podstawę do konstruowania strategii jego rozwoju w integrującej się Unii. Położenie geograficzne poszczególnych państw stwarza odmienne warunki klimatyczne i glebowe dla rozwijania produkcji rolniczej. W większości przypadków państwa Unii pod tym względem są dla siebie komplementarne. Te właściwości są uzupełniane zróżnicowaniem w poziomie rozwoju gospodarczego i zaawansowaniem przemian strukturalnych w rolnictwie. Rolnictwo polskie stanowiąc ważny składnik rolnictwa Unii może odegrać poważną rolę w rozwijaniu jej bezpieczeństwa żywnościowego i samowystarczalności żywnościowej.
