Abstract: The growing importance of information in the economy causes drastic changes in market structures. By the end of the first half of the 20th Century, most economic theories assumed full information. It was only in the 1970s that work by Stiglitz and Akerlof on asymmetric information highlighted the importance of information in economic decisions. The overall level of economic activity, consumption and investment stems from the decision of many entities. The object of the present article is an attempt to assess the importance of information in the 21st Century on the background of the global society development. The analysis is a polemical discussion. / Synopsis .Wzrost znaczenia informacji w gospodarce powoduje zdecydowane zmiany w strukturach rynkowych. Do końca pierwszej połowy XX wieku większość teorii ekonomicznych zakładała pełną informację , dopiero w latach 70-tych ubiegłego wieku, gdy pojawiły się prace Joseph’a E. Stiglitz’a oraz Geogre’a A. Akerlofa, dotyczące asymetrii informacji zwrócono uwagę na znaczenie informacji w decyzjach ekonomicznych. Ogólny poziom aktywności gospodarczej, konsumpcji oraz inwestycji wynika z decyzji wielu jednostek gospodarczych. Celem przedstawianego artykułu jest próba oceny znaczenia informacji w XXI wieku na tle rozwoju społeczeństwa globalnego. Przeprowadzona analiza ma charakter polemicznej dyskusji.
