Revista Mexicana de Agronegocios, 2015, vol. 36, issue January-June 2015, 13

Abstract: The demand for higher education worldwide has grown considerably in recent decades exponentially increasing enrollment at that level. Similarly, it has grown the number of institutions of higher education both public and private. In this context, it is imperative not only to grow in quantity but also in the quality of the education, research and linking. Universities should be able to adapt services to new demands with social commitment and develop quality mechanisms. In recent years it has increased students’ mobility and recognition of studies, accepting institutional accreditation as an important element to improve the quality of education. The objectives of this work are to present the results of the SWOT analysis of the teaching program of Veterinary Medicine at the Autonomous Agrarian University Antonio Narro at Laguna Unit, assess the impact of the accreditation of the program in two consecutive years for students and teachers and compare perception of accreditation among students, teachers and employers. The validation and comparison procedures were made in two consecutive periods (2010 and 2011) in the categories of students (n = 167), professors (n = 50) and employers (n = 57). A measuring instrument for each category of respondents with structured blocks of questions with Likert scaling of 1-5 items was applied. The instrument was validated by Cronbach Alpha analysis for each category. Paired means test with the statistical "t" student (2010 vs 2011) was performed and an analysis of variance (ANOVA) for multiple means comparison (students, teachers and employers) using the “F” and Tukey tests. In general terms in most of the dimensions not favorable impact of accreditation was perceived. This may be the result of the evaluation period (one year) is too short to see results. It is suggested to make another assessment in the medium term (2-3 years) which can be expressed in greater proportion the expected impact of accreditation on the study variables.
