Revista Mexicana de Agronegocios, 2018, vol. 43, issue July-december 2018

Abstract: For the State of Oaxaca, cattle raising is of great importance since it generates a value of 3,665,270 million pesos per year. The producers, who develop their activity in a system of production of double purpose in extensive form, have production units with low productivity parameters, however there are few studies of competitiveness in rural areas. Among the factors that determine the competitiveness of a rural production unit is the ability of its members to have a greater share in the market with higher sales, without neglecting their self-consumption, the levels of organization for production and marketing. of its products and the ability to access technological information and implement technological changes in its processes and products. The objective of this study carried out in 2017 was to analyze the level of competitiveness of 10 family units located in San Pedro Pochutla. A questionnaire was used to obtain data that facilitated the detection of the factors that have intervened for this situation. Forty percent of family units were in competition, whose added value was insufficient to cover the costs of internal factors. Thirty percent of the production units survive with income outside the unit, so their competitiveness was negative and Thirty percent operate in competitiveness.
