Revista Mexicana de Agronegocios, 2022, vol. 50, issue January-June 2022

Abstract: The demand for yellow corn in Mexico has shown sustained growth throughout the period that covers the production cycles from 2012/2013 to 2020/2021. This sustained increase in demand has caused, in said period, an increase in the nominal price and in the constant price and in the quantity supplied, the latter also with a sustained increase. In the case of demand, its most important components were livestock consumption and industrial use. On the supply side, the most important components were imports and production. Regarding the price, both nominal and constant, it presented an upward trend in the period under study, motivated by the constant increases of the two market forces. From all the above, the results show that in Mexico most of the yellow corn is imported and is oriented towards livestock consumption; likewise, one must be aware that this type of information exists, having access to it, knowing how to interpret it and making the best possible decisions in this regard is an important aspect for producers, administrators and consultants of agricultural companies. Therefore, it is recommended to carry out collection activities, analysis of information on the supply and demand of agricultural and livestock products by the agents.
