Abstract:
The objective of this research is to use the shadow prices model in price sensitivity, technological and production levels and their impacts on the coordination of the common bean production chain. The shadow prices model considers the marginal production and processing capacity of two industrial plants. The marginal production data were collected in Cristalina, Joviânia and Morrinhos, in Goias state, Brazil. Through convenience sampling, we choose 50 producers (20 in Cristalina, 15 in Joviânia and 15 in Morrinhos) based on bean processors in Cristalina, Goiânia and Joviânia. The processing capacity was based on the industrial plants located in Cristalina and Goiânia. The data show that the technological level and the price fluctuation are the main causes of shadow prices, since they contribute to the non-coordination of the chain and the generation of surplus margins within the chain itself. The shadow prices model was well suited to the present analysis, indicating that the coordination models adopted are relevant to the functioning of the chain.
