European Union Budget: Financing the Common agricultural Policy

Gordana Jevdovic

Ekonomika, Journal for Economic Theory and Practice and Social Issues, 2013, vol. 59, issue 3

Abstract: The budget of European Union is financial mirror of the policies that Union leads in terms of relative importance as well as dynamics of priorities. The evolution of both the revenue and expenditure side of the budget in the course of time reflects the way in which the Union itself has changed. In the seventies the European Community budget consisted almost entirely of agricultural spending. Today the EU budget covers a very wide range of richly detailed policies in which the agricultural policy is still very highly ranked, but not any more the only priority. The aim of this paper is to analyse fiscal support allocated throughout the EU budget to this delicate paneuropean policy both comparatively, in comparison to other major areas of spending in the budget of the current fiscal year and retrospectively, in the pace of time.
