Holistic-Systemic Approach to Change Management

Ekonomika, Journal for Economic Theory and Practice and Social Issues, 2014, vol. 60, issue 3

Abstract: In order to be able to understand the functioning of an organizational system that is conscious of its goal, we must abandon the classical approach to the explanation of how they function, and that is Cartesian, mechanistic approach. Functioning of a whole can no longer be interpreted through understanding of the functioning of its parts. The holistic principle teaches us that any whole is not a simple sum of its parts and relationships that govern them, but it is also the relationship of parts with the environment and the relationship of the whole itself and the interconnections towards the environment. This paper aims to show that holistic- systemic approach to change management is adequate approach because, by looking at the organization as a whole that is always more than simple sum of its parts, it provides – in a systematic way – changes to be perceived as processes, orders, sets of steps in designing and implementing appropriate changes. It also ensures that such changes remain sustainable.
