Abstract:
Widespread poverty is the basic characteristic of the current state of affairs in Kosmet. This is evident from several indicators, the most blatant being that which points to the fact that 40% of the population lives below the poverty line. At the same time, 15% is surviving in extreme poverty. As many as 37.000 families of Kosovo and Metohija are included in the list of socijal welfare institutions providing assistance on various grounds. It is absolutely clear that this social picture of a society or region will have long-term negative conseguences for both the economic activity and economic growth of the entire country.
