El efecto del tamaño en la eficiencia de las cajas rurales españolas

Abstract: El objeto del presente trabajo es analizar la posible relación entre los niveles de ineficiencia y el tamaño en las cajas rurales españolas. La metodología utilizada se basa en la estimación estocástica de una función de costes del tipo Translog. Obtenidos los niveles de eficiencia individuales, se analizan en función de la dimensión de las entidades a la vez que se estudian las economías de escala. El resultado obtenido indica la relación inversa y no lineal existente entre el tamaño y el grado de ineficiencia. El estudio de las economías de escala ha permitido determinar un umbral para las mismas.....The objective of the present paper is to analyse the relationship between dimension and efficiency in the Spanish cooperative banks. Methodology used is based on a Translog flexible cost function estimation. Once we have obtained the individual inefficiency levels, we analyse the cooperative banks depending on their dimension and we estimate scale economies. Results show that there is no direct a lineal relationship between dimension and efficiency. Scale economies show a threshold for these cooperative banks.
