Abstract: En este trabajo se realiza una descripcion sintetica del estado actual del sector pesquero europeo por segmentos y se propone un procedimiento para evaluar los resultados economics medios obtenidos por las flotas pesqueras de la Union Europea. A partir de una muestra representatice de segmentos de flota, el objectivo prioritario consistio en presentar dichos esultados por grandes areas de pesca y por segmentos de flota. Como resultado general constatamos que, en la mayor parte de los casos contemplados, sin ayudas publicas el capital invertido en la actividad pesquera no alcanza rentabilidades medias razonables y equiparables a la de usos alternativos del mismo...This paper shows a brief description about the European fishing sector by segments and develops a procedure by means of which to evaluate the average economic performances of the European Union's fishing fleets. Based on representative sample of fleet segments, the main object consisted of presenting such performances divided up into large fishing areas and into fleet segments. As a general result, we would state that in the majority of cases contemplated, the capital invested in fishing activity can obtain average reasonable yields, comparable to that if it were used in alternative ways.
