Violent and Property Crime in Nonmetropolitan Areas

Abstract: Crime is not confined to large cities. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, crime rates tripled in both metropolitan and nonmetropolitan areas between 1960 and 1980. By the mid-1970's, the rates of most types of crime were actually higher in nonmetro areas than they had been in metro areas in 1960.
