Abstract:
All businesses that contribute to the growing of farm products, the processing of these products into consumables, and the delivery of agricultural products to domestic and foreign consumers constitute the food and fiber system. Everybody knows, or think they know, the importance of food and fiber sector jobs to rural economies. These jobs account for slightly more than 1 in 5 of all rural jobs. What is often overlooked, however, is that such jobs account for almost 1 in 5 urban jobs, too.
