Rural Poverty: Do Assets Matter?

Abstract:
A poverty measure revised to include personal wealth would change the makeup of the rural poor. There would be more young persons, renters, unemployed persons, and members of large families among the rural poor and fewer older people and homeowners. These findings alter the view of who is poor.
