Abstract: The article reveals the main mechanisms for the formation of foreign direct investment flows in the context of globalization. The basic trends and trends in this area are determined. The main ways of their differentiation under the influence of a complex of factors are shown. Particular attention is paid to the development of foreign direct investment in the transition to the information society model and the digital economy. Contradictory of modern processes of development of FDI and slowing down of growth of the world economy are noted.
