Abstract: The objective of this paper is to realize a configuration of today’s pension systems in the various countries member of the European Union. The authors put into discussion also the importance of private component in the supply of pensions, summarizing the debate regarding a certain harmonization between the pension systems from the member countries of European Union. In the final part of the paper, there is also brought into discussion the influence of the financial crisis on the current pension schemes, with its potential roll-backs of reforms made so far. "
