Abstract:
This study examines the impact of stakeholder engagement on the success of social rehabilitation projects for street children in Bo District, Sierra Leone. Street children in the district face significant challenges, including abuse, abandonment, and limited access to education, healthcare, and social support. Effective rehabilitation requires the coordinated involvement of multiple stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, communities, families, and the children themselves. Focusing on two primary dimensions—communication and stakeholder support—the research employed a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data were analyzed using regression analysis and the Relative Importance Index (RII) to assess the influence of stakeholder engagement on project outcomes. Qualitative insights from interviews and thematic analysis provided depth to the statistical findings, offering a comprehensive understanding of how engagement practices affect rehabilitation success. Findings indicate that effective communication fosters trust, aligns expectations, and enhances coordination among stakeholders. Sustained support through financial contributions, advocacy, and advisory roles is critical to the continuity and success of rehabilitation initiatives. The study underscores the necessity of structured engagement strategies, recommending the development of integrated communication frameworks and long-term support mechanisms. Strengthening alliances between government bodies, NGOs, and communities is essential for sustainable rehabilitation outcomes.
