SPEL Analysis of Financial Statements of Selected Public Sector Steel Manufacturing Companies – India

Abstract: Financial statements are the records that outline the financial activities of a business, an individual or any other entity. Financial statements are meant to present the financial information of the entity in question as clearly and concisely as possible for both the entity and for readers. The objective of financial statements is to provide information about the financial position, performance and changes in financial position of an enterprise that is useful to a wide range of users in making economic decisions through balance sheet, income statement, statement of changes in equity, cash flow statement and others. The analysis of financial performance reflects the financial position of the company. A ratio analysis is a quantitative analysis of information contained in a company’s financial statements. It is used to evaluate various aspects of a company’s operating and financial performance such as its Solvency, Profitability, Efficiency, and Liquidity (SPEL). The objective of this paper is to assess the financial performance of Public Sector Steel Manufacturing Companies (PSSMC) in India on the basis of various tools and techniques. This study investigates the financial performance of selected companies in India for a ten-year period from 2006 to 2015, which is assessed using financial ratios. This paper focuses the impact of disinvestment on the solvency, profitability, efficiency, and liquidity position of the selected PSUs. In the present study used statistical technique ANOVA to analyze the financial performance. The findings pointed out that overall company's performance is gradually decreased until the year 2015.
