Abstract:
This paper compares Engel conditional equivalence scales estimated semi parametrically from the household’s consumption expenditures for Buenos Aires city in two different periods. The objective is to analyze the changes and its implications over families well being. The data come from the last two National Expenditures Surveys (1996/97 y 2004/05). As result, the scales obtained for the last period are higher as a consequence of two reinforcing effects. On the one hand, lower economies of scale in the households increased consumption spending for a larger family and, on the other, higher equivalences of children relative to adults increased the spending that families with more children need.
