Abstract: This paper uses a sample of data at the firm level, provided by Fundación Observatorio PyME, to determine the association between the export status of Argentine industrial SMEs and the dynamics of employment in them during the period 2004-2014. The results indicate that the export status of these SMEs is positively related to the rate of employment variation. In other words, in the period considered, employment grew more or decreased less in SMEs that were exporters than in those that were not. However, this relationship is heterogeneous in time and space, varying between subperiods, as well as between regions.
