Abstract: The topic of the roundtable discussion is one of the most important priorities in the development of science, technology and engineering in Russia. Panelists discussed the impact of space research on economic development of the country, its technological aspect. Experience shows that research related to space exploration, give a powerful impetus to the development of science and technology and, on the contrary, innovation based on research results obtained in other areas of science, open up new horizons in space exploration. The reporter presented a historical overview of the most important steps in space research, formulated the basic categories of the scientific tasks solved in the process of space research. Questions of economic benefits of space research and of international cooperation in space exploration were also raised.
