Abstract:
Introduction. This article has attempted to analyze the combination of educational and scientific activities in Russian universities: to identify the leading organizations, on the one hand, and the problems of university science, on the other. The question that interested the author was: whether the best education and the best results of scientific activity in domestic universities coincide? Considerable attention was also paid to the development strategies of universities for humanities and social studies. Methods. The information base of the paper was the university rankings, data on the availability of master and postgraduate courses, and dissertation councils in economic specialties, bibliometric indicators of higher education organizations. The method of comparative analysis and the method of grouping were used as the main tools. Results and Discussion. The study showed that, with rare exceptions, good education in Russian universities and their significant scientific results in the direction of “Economics and management” are currently not the same. Rather, there is the inverse relationship between these activities. The author also describes various strategies of universities development and existing “distortions” in the national higher education. The result of the study is the conclusion that it is still necessary to find a balance between scientific and educational activities in universities, which would correspond to national characteristics and the mission of universities. Conclusion. In the context of the scarcity of statistical data and empirical research on university science, the present paper is one of the steps in the direction that requires further in-depth study. The results will be interesting to specialists in the field of science studies, organization and management of scientific and educational complex.
