Abstract: The article considers the changes in Northeast Asia since the emergence of the concept of creating a NEA economic region on the basis of the complementarity between the economies of Japan, South Korea, Russia, China, Mongolia and North Korea. Based on the analysis of the dynamics of regional trade interdependence, the author concludes that the integration environment in the NEA has been changing from the complementarity of production factors to the deepening of vertical specialization of countries and formation of GVCs, driven by MNCs and a new regional leader - China. The Russian Far East has a potential to be included in these processes based on trade and industrial policies consistent with the changing economic realities in the NEA.
