Jordan: Economic prospects and foreign economic relations

Abstract: The article is devoted to the current economic and financial situation in Jordan. The recent government efforts to improve the country’s performance, to reduce the imbalances in the budget and balance of payments are examined. Besides, the article focuses on the analysis of Jordan’s Economic Growth Plan 2018-2022, which was approved by the kingdom parliament in May 2017. The author considers its key objectives and tasks, ways and instruments for their implementation and development strategies for the underlying sectors of Jordan’s economy. Implementation of the Economic Growth Plan implies prospects for Jordan-Russia trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation growth. The results of Russian-Jordanian trade and economic relations are summarized and possible ways and areas of bilateral cooperation for the coming years are suggested.
