Abstract:
The paper considers the effects of sanctions on strategies of Russian multinationals on the example of energy and ICT sectors. The authors consider the implications in terms of geographical expansion and upgrading strategies in global value chains. The sanctions contributed to intensification of economic ties with China. In these conditions, Russian multinationals can implement process upgrading, functional upgrading and product upgrading strategies, taking into account the industry specifics. Import substitution policies positively affect the role of Russian multinationals in global value chains, although by present the impacts are of moderate significance.
