Special economic zones and global economic growth
Julia Kravchenko
Russian Foreign Economic Journal, 2020, issue 1, 93-103
Abstract:
In the article, the author considers changes in the number of special economic zones and their contribution to the growth of the global economy. It is revealed that special economic zones can help attract investment, boost exports and create jobs where they succeed in building linkages with the broader economy. It was found out that where special economic zones lift economic growth the stimulus tends to be temporary. And too many zones operate as enclaves with limited impact beyond their confines. The author outlines new challenges that special economic zones may face in the future at the end of the article.
