Abstract:
The activities of the US Department of Energy national laboratories are considered in the article. Their special role in the country‘s innovation system, as an institution capable of solving longterm problems of an interdisciplinary nature, combining fundamental research and development of technologies, is determined. The basic principles of arranging the production of civilian products are revealed: system integration when performing work within the framework of projects and programs among themselves, with universities, research centers, industry; the use of unique equipment as User facilities (centers of collective use), on the basis of which networks of scientists from all over the world are formed; priority use of computer modeling; constantly evolving technology transfer system, etc.
