Abstract:
The article is devoted to Russia’s trade in tyres and synthetic rubber - technologically related goods. Indicators calculated by the author reveal that volumes of exported synthetic rubber and imported tyres in 2001-2020 depended strongly on the changes in prices that affects trade immediately. It is highly evident from the imports of tyres of medium and low price range with high elasticity of the demand. The same calculations made for China and Germany, two important Russian partners in this trade, prove the importance of exports for their tyre industry. Deterioration of the terms of trade for Russia resulted in the transition of domestic tyre market to the mode of grades exchange with both increase in imports and simultaneous squeeze of the foreign companies’ production out of the market. For positive industrial and trade policy these factors should be taken into consideration.
