Abstract:
The revision of the approach to FDI as an economic category observed in the EU is analyzed. It is expressed in restrictions on freedom of access, greater focus on protection, and the so-called leveling of the playing field in the global investment market. A comparative analysis revealed that the current EU policy of restricting foreign capital inflows from “unfriendly” countries should primarily be considered as a tool to increase its own competitiveness, albeit it reflects the mutual interests of the United States and the most developed countries. It is concluded that the increased power of supranational institutions is a tool to strengthen the EU’s role in the emerging polycentric world.
