Mega-Regional Trade Agreements in the Global Economy

Abstract: The article assesses the role of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) in enhancing trade turnover among the Asia-Pacifi c countries. The features of the RCEP in comparison with other mega free trade agreements (mega-FTAs) are identified, and the role of ASEAN in achieving a 15-country free trade agreement is assessed. The low level of Russia’s trade relations with RCEP countries except China and the structure of Russia’s exports dominated by geopolitically sensitive goods to these countries are shown. Opportunities for the labour market and sectoral employment in Russia and other EAEU countries through expansion of foreign trade operations are highlighted The need for increased imports from ASEAN countries to enhance their role in mutual trade is underlined.
