Assessing the Impact of the Current World Economy Transformation on Russia’s Merchandise Trade

Abstract: Nowadays, increased geopolitical and geo-economic instability affecting the economies of countries contributes to fragmentation of the world economy. Previously established economic ties are significantly changing. These processes transform the world economic system formed in the late XX-early XXI centuries, one of the most important elements of which is international trade in goods. In such conditions, given the distinctive problems of Russia’s foreign merchandise trade, which most often include low diversification of merchandise exports and high demand for a wide range of finished goods, the importance of effective assessment of the impact of the current world economy transformation on it increases. For this purpose, the paper uses the author’s method of extended SWOT analysis in order to quantify qualitative findings. The obtained results make it possible to assess the impact of various groups of external and internal factors on Russia’s merchandise trade, which is important in the development of government regulation measures.
