The “Greenland Vector” of U.S. Geo-Economic Strategy

Abstract: In December 2024, less than a month before his second inauguration, the President-elect of the United States, D.Trump said that he considers Greenland as an essential element of ensuring US national security, and establishing control over it is an “absolute necessity.” And although neither Greenland itself nor Denmark, which includes the island, rejected the American idea, legitimate questions arise: what is the “enduring value” of Greenland, is it possible for it to come under U.S. control or jurisdiction, and what strategic goals are pursued by the American administration’s steps to acquire it. The article discusses the issues of Greenland’s economic potential and its role in the U.S. geo-economic strategy.
