Abstract: In this study, we first offer the recent statistics about the women workforce and women managers in Turkey. Then we focus on the major factors that deprive many working women of the managerial positions and consider the problems that the women managers face in companies. Finally the news texts, including the female managers in the mass media of Turkey will be interpreted through content analysis and textual analysis. The universe of the research consists of the daily newspapers. Through purposeful sampling, the first five newspapers with the highest circulation rate were included in the scope of the examination. In contemporary societies, mass media (in this study, daily newspapers) was one of the most important instruments and effective mediums for creating public awareness of social problems. Our study covers the news stories appeared within 2003-2007 since Turkey have taken progressive steps by accepting the New Labor Law in 2003 in order to adjust the work-life to the basic EU requirements. As a result of this study, we have identified five categories of news stories considering woman managers: Accomplishment news; news oriented towards sex discrimination; news oriented towards affirmative action; descriptive news, and others. The news regarding the accomplishment news of woman managers are dominating in daily newspapers.. The news oriented towards sex discrimination demonstrates that the social traditional values are preventing and depriving women from managerial positions in Turkey. Although there are considerable numbers of news regarding affirmative action strategies in order to solve this problem, the descriptive news shows that disapprove of woman’s career as manager is still strong in Turkish society, even in professional areas mostly regarded as “women’s work†.
