Abstract:
The main aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between corporate / institution philosophy and managerial characteristics (interaction, integration, development and respect – cooperation) in volunteer teams of the non-governmental organizations in terms of the perceptions managers and members. The survey form prepared on this subject has been applied over 324 individuals (111 managers and 213 members / volunteers) in 104 NGOs between October 2009 - August 2010 in Izmir. The results of the study revealed that both the managers and members / volunteers have positive views for each factor (corporate / institution philosophy, interaction, integration, development and respect – cooperation) and their perceptions of corporate / institution philosophy and volunteer teams managerial characteristics (interaction, integration, development and respect – cooperation) are in positive correlation. As a result, if the NGOs pay more attention to corporate / institution philosophy and managerial characteristics of volunteer teams, application success of the managerial characteristics of volunteer teams may increase. In NGOs, the order of importance given by managers and members of volunteer teams in their activities is institution philosophy, interaction, integration, and respect – cooperation within the team, but development within the team should be given more importance. Besides, the managers, in comparison with the members of volunteer teams, have more positive in terms of interaction within the team, and less positive views in terms of the corporate / institution philosophy and development within the team.
