From Price Support to Direct Payments: New Tendencies in Agricultural Support Policies in the World

Abstract: This article discusses the new tendencies in agricultural support policies in the world in the aftermath of the Uruguay Round. First, it reviews agricultural support policies in the world with a special focus on the US and EU support programs. Then it highlights new regulations brought about by the Uruguay Round regarding production and exchange of agricultural products. Lastly, the article evaluates the efforts for switching from price support to direct payments in agricultural support policies in recent years.
