Abstract:
Thorstein Veblen rejected the mainstream economics’ homo economicus typology. Instead of this, he spokes of the existence of an individual acting in the context of the habits of thought. This human typology has some harmful behaviors to the society. In this context, it could be said that metaphysical beliefs takes part in Veblen’s thought. But, when there is a lack of resolution in the settlement of the problems that are experienced in real world, metaphysical ideas will be useful. However, rationalism should be the main element in using metaphysical ideas.
