Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to investigate the trade structure and export performance of the selected sub-sectors of Turkish Glass and Ceramic Industries in the European Market for the 1990-2001 period. The findings of the Grubel-Lloyd Index and Trade Dissimilarity Indicator, which are used to analyze the trade structure, reveal that in the ceramic industry intra-industry trade is low for the whole period, and in the glass industry it has a falling trend; in both sectors the adequacy of trade pattern with the European demand is high. The export performance of the sectors are analyzed by using Revealed Comparative Advantage Index. According to the findings, generally the export performance of both sectors are high, but in the glass industry Turkey lost her competitive power against some countries in 2001.
