Abstract:
The violin concerto in E minor composed by Mendelssohn in 1844 is one of the masterpieces performed by almost all professional violinists at all times. The said concerto takes place in the curriculum of almost all relevant schools, the programs of various violin competitions organized at national and international level, the discographies of the solists recording cd’s in the past or today, the annual programs of symphony orchestras and the repertoires of many senior or young violin solists. This article shall examine the reasons making the aforementioned concerto such an indespensable masterpiece for the violinists and the audience.
