Abstract: ­KenjirŠTokutomi puts his impressions of Turkey regarding his 3 days visit to Istanbul into the book Junrei KikŠ, which was published the same year. At the beginning of 20th century, considerable Turkish knowledge already existed in Japan. This knowledge was created from the end of 16th century till the late 19th century only by the Europeans. It is beyond doubt that the Europeans created this knowledge considering the wars and opposition with the Turks. Nevertheless; although Tokutomi’s notes include exotic subjects, they are away from prejudice and misrepresentations. Moreover, they are full with advocacy.
