Abstract:
Nowadays, Standard Method of Measurement (SMM) is one of the most important standardizations in construction industry. It provides a foundation about the measurement principles which can be used to measure the design drawing’s volume as well as the actual work’s volume. As a country that has an enormous increase in construction outputs, this standardization will be able to minimize any misunderstanding or miscalculation between owners and contractors in Indonesian construction industry, and therefore it provides the same measurement principles for both parties. However until today Indonesia still doesn’t have a Standard Method of Measurement. Therefore this research has two objectives, i.e. (1) to identify the advantages of implementing Standard Method of Measurement in Indonesia and (2) to identify the challenges in implementing this Standard Method of Measurement in Indonesian construction industry. The research method used for this report was a comprehensive literature from several countries that have already adopted this Standard Method of Measurement and field observations. The results are presented in tables and we can conclude the benefits of adopting this Standard Method of Measurement as a means to advance Indonesian construction industry.
