Examining the effects of computer-assisted preschool educational activities on children’s intuitive mathematical ability

Abstract: This study aims to examine the effects of computer-assisted preschool educational activities on children’s intuitive mathematical ability. The group under investigations consists of randomly-selected five years old children attending a nursery school in Selçuklu county, Konya, Turkey during 2011-2012. The research is designed to have pre-test and post-test models with a control group. A total of 40 children (20 children in an experimental group and 20 children in the control group) are observed. Intuitive Mathematical Ability (IMA) Test is conducted over the children to determine children’s intuitive mathematical ability. In particular, the test is administered before and after the experiments. The Mann-Whitney’s U-test is taken to analyze data emerging from those tests. In general, the results indicate that computer-assisted preschool educational activities have made a positive contribution to the intuitive mathematical ability of five years old children.
