A Journey of Intercultural and Learning Adaptation: International Students’ Learning Experiences at One Australian University

Jianli Wang

International Journal of Asian Social Science, 2012, vol. 7, issue 1, 1140-1150

Abstract: This article focuses on the pervasive impact of culture on language and learning with the acknowledgment of individual differences. It explores international students’ complex cultural and learning adaptation processes with a case-study approach consisting of participant observation, a questionnaire and in-depth interviewing. My findings suggest that international students, especially those whose native languages are not English do face a broad range of difficulties with their learning, which implies a continuous demand of appropriate assistance from their host countries for their learning adaptations.
