Scolarizzazione degli occupati: bassa nel Mezzogiorno, alta nel centro nord

Regional Economy, 2021, vol. 5, issue Q2, 12-16
Abstract:
This work analyses the levels of schooling of people employed in Italy. First of all, it is noted that over time there has been a general increase in the number of people in employment: the number of persons em-ployed with low schooling (at most the average licence) has decreased and that of those employed with high schooling (graduate) has increased at the same time. The schooling of employees is strongly and posi-tively correlated with labour productivity: regions with labour markets capable of employing more schooled workers are regions with high levels of labour productivity. These are elements that help explain the lag in the development of the Mezzogiorno of Italy and Calabria
