Abstract:
"In this paper I analyse the effect of having German-speaking owners or managers on the foreign trade of South Tyrolean firms. Cultural proximity between top managers and foreign counterparts contributes to reducing information asymmetries, facilitating trade in more sophisticated products. The presence of German-speaking own- ers or managers is associated with a significant increase in the likelihood of trading with German-speaking coun- tries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) as well as in the value of trade flows with these countries."
