Attitude and Perception of Women on Domestic Violence Practiced by Husbands in Ethiopia

Abstract: This study assesses women's attitudes and perceptions of domestic violence that are practiced in different communities with a variety of cultures. The study investigates the causes and impacts of domestic and gender-based violence on women's life in Ethiopia. The study also investigates the attitude and perceptions of the women towards their experiences of domestic and gender base violence. This study specifically aims to examine the perception and attitudes of the women towards domestic violence in East Hararghe Zone, Ethiopia. The study also aims to analyse the common types of domestic violence and the response of communities towards the domestic violence in the study area. Purposive and convenient sampling is used to determine selection of the respondents. In-depth interview tool for focus group discussion is used to collect the data and analyse it thematically. A significant number of women respondents consider that violence against women is the usual conflict between the wife and the husband that could happen anywhere in the male dominated societies.
