Abstract: The paper consideres the causes and circumstances of crisis in Europe, as well as its effects on the European Union, and in particular its impact on the Croatian economy. It also provides a brief account of viewpoints on the Croatian accession to the EU, and possible direction of actions that would help Croatian economy get out of the recession. Final part gives an answer to the question on whether capitalism has reached its peak and crossed the culmination point.
