Abstract: The development of engineering education in Russia today is closely linked with the development of digital competencies and the improvement of digital literacy as the main indicators of knowledge and skills of a graduate of a technical university. This trend allows the use of digital tools and technologies in professional activities in order to improve performance. The article describes the use of simulation modeling methods in the educational process to study the functioning of complex systems. The process of development and research of the simulation model of the production shop of a machine-building enterprise is considered. The emphasis is placed on modern requirements in the maintenance system of the production shop of a machine-building enterprise. In the process of implementation, modern technologies and resources were used, namely, agent-based and discrete-event modeling in the AnyLogic PLE software environment. The aim of the study was to develop a simulation model, study its functioning and issue recommendations aimed at increasing the productivity of workers. The paper shows how the simulation approach is used in the educational process when analyzing and predicting the behavior of complex systems. This leads to the fact that training becomes more convenient, visual, and informative due to the use of AnyLogic software environment tools and the ability to monitor the behavior of the system in real time. All this accelerates the development of educational disciplines by students and allows to train specialists with professional and digital competencies in the field of analysis, forecasting and optimization of complex systems in various fields.
