Abstract: The article considers one of the important and controversial aspects of the English language course at the university – Business English. Examples of the use in English-speaking countries of such concepts as English for Special Purposes, Business English, as well as concepts derived from it are given. Based on the analysis of original and domestic sources, the authors share their thoughts on the possibility of distinguishing between several concepts used under one term “Business English” in order to clarify the specifics of each of them. Hereby, the authors make an attempt to draw the attention of the pedagogical community to the existing problem in order to outline possible ways to solve it by common efforts. Based on the comparative method of research, the program of the discipline “Foreign language” for non-linguistic specialties is analyzed. The article also provides the stages of organizing a university course of English for special purposes and the possible content of the module “English for business communication” within the framework of such a course. It is concluded that the English language of business communication is universal and is intended for all students involved in intercultural communication, regardless of the scope of their current or future activities
