Role of metaphors and similes for the literary images creationin the novel by Ray Bradbury “Fahrenheit 451”

Abstract: The article is devoted to studying metaphors and similes as important expressive means of speech. The paper aims to reveal the role of metaphors and similes in literary image creation in the novel by Ray Bradbury “Fahrenheit 451”. The research is conducted based on studying scientific and methodological literature on the article problem, continuous sampling method, method of quantitative calculation, and comparative and descriptive methods. Finally, the role of metaphors and similes was found to construct the image of the main hero, positive and negative images of personages, the images of books, fire, war, nature, and technical advances. The structure and kinds of these expressive means were discovered. It was proved that the linguistic means mentioned above reflect the psychical condition of heroes and characterize different phenomena. It discovers the world perception of Ray Bradbury, identifying his subjective- evaluative attitude to the facts of objective reality.
